June 30 -July 3, 2005- by Ekachai

Trip to Phu Ruer, Chiengkarn, Tar Lee, Pak Chom, and Mae Khong.
Take the Highway 21 from Saraburi to Lopburi, Petchaboon, Lomsak, and Phu Ruer. Then ride up north to Laos border thru Tar Lee, Chiengkarn along Mae Khong to Nong Kie. Total distant of over 1,500 km on my new Ducati 999s with Pracha's BMW R1200GS.

Found two of the best biking routes along the way:-
The first one is between Phu Ruer to Loei city - Highway #203. A newly paved road with excellent sign board on every curve and slope. Excellent design speed at corner (bowl shaped with inner curve lower than outer curve). Heaven for big biker who love to lean into corner at speed. No sharp end and very few blind spots. Big PTT gas station on Phu Ruer serve decent espresso with great view over the valley.
The second one is Highway #12 just before Lomsak uphill to Tung Saleang Luang and Geang Sopa waterfall. Turn Right at Barn Kek Yai to Ampur Nakorn Thai via Highway #2013 to Ampur Darn Sai. Excellent road (wide and newly paved). Little traffic and a lot of open space along the mountainous roads. Highly recommended places to stop for food and drink are:- Coffee shop at Ampur Chai Bar Darn, 67 Km from Saraburi junction. Real nice place to sip espresso (or espresso con panna or au machiato). Caramel machiato is also good.Have big Saeco coffee machine with owner who love coffee. Just one kilo off main junction and next to the train station on the left hand side. Ros Lert coffee shop, Loei province. on the main street opposite KTB branch and next to gold shop. Serving real nice baquet, congee, and coffee. Open 24 hours a day. The owner is very friendly and trying his best to get Pukkie into his family !! Got three photo album of his whole family and enjoy serving good food to clients for over 30 years. Ra Bieng restuarant in Chieng Karn. Serving nice food with good view of Mae Khong and nice terrace. On the road where the old shop houses and guest houses are located (along riverside).
Pracha got most pix on his new Canon Powershot Pro1.
